DIANA GUTIERREZ REPORTS FROM VETERANS PARK. THE 2024 PET WALK HERE IN MILWAUKEE, THE BIGGEST ONE YET SINCE THE PANDEMIC. AND IT WAS A LITTLE BIT OF EVERYTHING HERE ALONG THE LAKEFRONT. YOU HAD BIG DOGS, SMALL DOGS, A MINIATURE HORSE, I MEAN, YOU NAME IT, EVERYTHING, AS LONG AS IT’S ON A LEASH AND CONTAINED. GOOD TO GO HERE ALONG THE LAKEFRONT. NOW, THE WISCONSIN HUMANE SOCIETY SERVES NEARLY 40,000 ANIMALS AND THEIR FAMILIES EVERY SINGLE YEAR, AND THEY DO NOT RECEIVE GENERAL GOVERNMENT FUNDING. THEY’RE NOT AFFILIATED WITH ANY NATIONAL GROUPS. THAT IS WHY IT’S SO IMPORTANT THAT PEOPLE DONATE. THE WISCONSIN HUMANE SOCIETY IS A LOCAL NONPROFIT THAT RELIES ON GIFTS FROM AMAZING PEOPLE LIKE WE’VE SEEN ALL THROUGHOUT HERE. I THINK ADOPTION IS JUST SO GREAT. SO MANY DOGS NEED HOMES. AND I THINK JUST TAKE THE LEAP LIKE HE GETS US OUT. HE GETS US ACTIVE AND HE’S JUST A FANTASTIC DOG IN A REALLY GOOD COMPANION. SO I THINK ADOPTION IS GREAT. AND YOU KNOW, IT’S A MAN’S BEST FRIEND. Nearly 1,000 people and their companions gathered at Veterans Park on June 15 for the Pet Walk MKE 2024 to benefit the Wisconsin Humane Society.The event began with a 5K run/walk or a 1-mile walk. Participants were able to enjoy food, beverages, music, vendors, agility courses, and a dog costume contest afterward.WISN 12 News was a proud sponsor of this year’s walk. Anchor and reporter Diana Gutierrez was also the emcee.The walk raises money for the Wisconsin Humane Society. The Humane Society itself does not receive general government funding and is not part of any national umbrella organization.
