Need to evacuate during wildfires? Here’s where to board pets for free

Table Rock Fire continues to burn, threatens North Carolina

The Table Rock Fire continues to rage in South Carolina, spreading beyond the North Carolina state line.

Greenville County firefighters are working hard to contain the Table Rock State Park and Persimmon Ridge wildfires, which continue to run ablaze.

These brave-hearted men and women have also rescued pets and livestock and reunited them with their owners.

Here's what you need to know about the animals saved from the wildfires and where you can board displaced pets.

What pets were rescued during the wildfires?

A dog is waiting for its owner to claim it after firefighters rescued it from a mountain in the Table Rock Fire. If you are the owner of the dog, please contact the Pickens County Sheriff's Office on Facebook and send them a private message. Deputies said the dog is being taken to a secure facility to rest and be pampered.

A horse named Duke was also rescued in the Persimmon Ridge Fire, who escaped while his owner was evacuating. Officials said the horse stayed near his home and was “treated to apples and plenty of head rubs,” per WSPA. The family has been informed that Duke and their home are safe, according to crews.

Where can I bring displaced pets?

Cleveland Park Animal Hospital offers free boarding for displaced pets during the Upstate wildfires. It will also take in pets that owners cannot bring during an evacuation. Animals that are not up to date will receive free vaccinations.

“Our priority is supporting our community ― both people and pets― through this incredibly difficult time,” said the animal hospital. “If you need a safe place for your animals, please don't hesitate to reach out to our team.”

Pets can be brought to both hospital locations:

∎ 126 Woodland Way, Greenville

∎ 815 NE Main Street, Simpsonville
