A new charity fundraiser is calling for pet owners to submit pictures of their furry friends for a chance to be featured on limited-edition beer cans.
The Animal Welfare League of Arlington is teaming up with The Board Room brewery in Lyon Park to host a pet photo competition. Through Monday, June 30, the Rescue Brew Pet Photo Contest will accept pictures in the categories of cats, dogs and other “small companions.”
The most popular pets in each category will have their faces featured on a 32-ounce crowler brew from The Board Room in August. The contest will also randomly select another pet with at least 100 votes to feature on a fourth can design.
“This isn’t just a contest — it’s a celebration of the joy animals bring to our lives and a chance to support pets in need,” AWLA Development Director Kat Williams said.
It costs $25 to enter and $1 to vote in the contest. As of today (Wednesday), the competition — which began accepting submissions on Sunday — has already raised over $8,000 and received over 70 submissions.
The AWLA is hoping to raise at least $50,000, which will benefit its efforts to shelter and care for local animals.
Winners will be announced within 24 hours of the contest closing, and the limited-edition cans will be available in August at a pet-friendly release party at The Board Room.
Winners must supply three to four high-quality photos. They will receive an opportunity for a pet photo shoot with an AWLA photographer.
