HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – A new dog park in the Kakaako area celebrated its grand opening on Saturday.
Owners and their four-legged friends gathered at the new location on Queen Street for a traditional Hawaiian blessing.
The kahu on site blessed each dog entering the park.
“It’s a place where dogs can bring their owners and so it’s a community asset, it really fits the community here, it’s more than a Dog Park, it’s a gathering place,” said Craig Nakamoto, Hawaii Community Development Authority.
“I am so happy for the neighborhood because I know how important it is to socialize your dog, to get them out, to exercise and for people to hang out with their pets,” said dog owner Ann Stone.
The new park features two separate playgrounds, one for small dogs and one for big dogs.
