New nonprofit rescue to serve people, pets of Clallam County

Huckleberry House Rescue, a 501(c)3 charitable organization, has begun serving the people and pets of Clallam County.

The organization is dedicated to rescuing dogs and cats in need of medical treatment and/or behavioral support and rehoming them, organization representatives said in December. Additionally, those animals with hospice needs will be given permanent sanctuary and end-of-life care. Huckleberry House Rescue is the nonprofit branch of Huckleberry Housecalls Veterinary Services, a business started by Dr. Suzy Zustiak earlier this year.

Zustiak is accompanied by veterinary technician Bob Parr, and veterinary assistant Angel O’Neil. Together they provide mobile veterinary and in-home euthanasia services for pets in the Port Angeles/Sequim area. HHVS can also provide vaccinations, evaluations, diagnosis, and treatment for a wide variety of ailments and behavior problems.

The three are joined by Mary Beth Wegener and Justine Parr as founders of Huckleberry House Rescue. With more than 80 years of combined veterinary and animal welfare experience, the team is excited about their new journey.

Those interested in fostering animals for Huckleberry House are asked to call or text 360-670-7766 or email to huckhouserescue@gmail.com. Donations to support the rescue and its mission of caring for vulnerable companion animals can be made via PayPal.
