NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — New pet registration requirements for New Hanover County will go into effect July 1st.
According to the New Hanover Sheriff’s Office Animal Services Unit, all dogs, cats, and ferrets over 1 year old that have not been spayed or neutered will have the price of registration increase from $20 to $60 per year. If under 1 year or spayed or neutered, the registration remains at $10 per year.
All dogs, cats, and ferrets four months and older must be vaccinated for rabies and registered with the New Hanover Sheriff’s Office Animal Services Unit.
Failure to vaccinate your pet for rabies could result in a $200 fine.
A current rabies vaccination is required for pet registration.
Failure to register your pets could result in a $100 fine.
