The North Shore Dog Club Show will happen at Chippewa Park from Aug. 9-11 and the club is currently looking for vendors to round out the weekend’s events.

THUNDER BAY — The North Shore Dog Club is a fairly new organization that has gained popularity in the region over the past few years.

Purebred dog owners and sporting dog owners enjoy bringing out their canines to show off their agility skills and beauty.

The North Shore Dog Club Show will happen again at Chippewa Park from Aug. 9-11 and the club is currently looking for vendors to round out the weekend’s events.

Yvonne Yurick-Norton is the club’s media contact and encourages local artists and vendors with a focus on pets to register and participate in the show.

“We have a select few food vendors because facilities don't often have a dedicated concession, so we do invite some of the different food trucks that are in the city as well,” Yurick-Norton added.

Vendors of all kinds can attend, however, booths with a focus on all things for our furry friends will likely get a lot of attention over the weekend.

“We generally get larger, what we call dog show vendors, so they sell supplies, like specific things that dog show people are looking for,” Yurick-Norton said. “But we're always interested in others.

“I know that we've had some people that make collars or they make coats for dogs, anything like that, we're very interested in having them come and join us.

“Plus, there's all kinds of different other vendors that we would be interested in and would love to have. It's just because of where we're located at Chippewa Park, there's a lot of traffic that we get coming through on the weekend, so a little bit of something for everybody is always a good thing.”

There will be two types of events happening at Chippewa Park during the weekend.

The confirmation show, which will grade certified purebred dogs based on the CKC (Canadian Kennel Club) standard, will happen throughout the weekend, with judges from across Canada and even a judge from Japan taking part.

“If you can't get out in the morning, try to come in the afternoon, and then you'll actually get to see the ‘Best of Breed’ representative from all the groups,” Yurick-Norton said. “It really is nice to see.”

The second event involves dog agility. These dogs do not have to be purebred and the competition is an especially exciting aspect of the weekend’s events.

“Agility is so much fun to watch because that's where you see the dogs go over jumps They go through tunnels. They run over what we call a dog walk, so they have to go up and down, and then they have a teeter-totter. They have a ramp they run through.”

Local vendors are encouraged to contact organizers by email at dlweston@tbaytel.net to participate in the market.
