People are known to cultivate unique hobbies. Some individuals are passionate about expensive clothing, while others are drawn to luxurious houses. However, a husband and wife from Delhi NCR have a rather unique hobby that has garnered viral attention and become a topic of conversation.
Zoya Rehman and her husband, residents of Delhi, have raised an iguana lizard that bears a resemblance to a ‘Komodo Dragon’.
Just like people tie a lead around their pet dog’s neck and take it for walks, Zoya Rehman ties a lead around her iguana lizard’s neck, dresses it up, and takes it out. As soon as she takes the iguana lizard out, everyone in the locality rushes inside their houses. Some people even take photos. They have named the lizard Sultana.
Speaking to Local18, Zoya Rehman shared that she brought the iguana lizard from Mexico about seven years ago. Until then, iguana breeding was not practised in India. Now, breeding has begun in Kerala.
Rehman, who was fond of raising something unusual, said she chose to raise an iguana lizard. The cost of keeping it is almost negligible. There is currently no veterinary treatment available for iguanas in India. Therefore, whenever there is a problem, its treatment is sought online after consulting a veterinarian in Mexico.
Zoya Rehman stated that sultana is not poisonous and is very active during the summer. She explained that she becomes lethargic in winter because it is a type of crocodile. Rehman further elaborated that it is completely herbivorous, consuming only vegetables and fruits, and does not even eat insects. Sultana is approximately five feet long and weighs around five to six kilograms. According to Rehman, people will not face any problem keeping it as it can easily live amongst humans.
