The local rescue opened a new no-kill facility as animal shelters reach capacity across North Alabama. Owner Jamie Finley called it a crisis.
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — The Notorious DOG animal rescue group held an open house today for their new facility on Stokes Street, calling the event their “Spring Fling” to connect community members and local organizations with animals in need of homes.
The rescue primarily focuses on rehabilitating and finding homes for pit bulls but works with various breeds to prevent euthanasia at other shelters.
“We take high-risk dogs for euthanasia or just for being neglected, abused. We kind of rehab them, work with them,” said co-owner Jamie Finley. “We have one right now that we've been working with for about nine months, and we've just gotten to where we can pet him.”
Finley described the stray dog population and shelter space in North Alabama as in a “crisis.”
“We're in a crisis in the South, no doubt about it. Huntsville Animal Services is full. We're full. Everybody that we know is full,” Finley said.
