Now you can take your pet on an Uber ride in Bengaluru

Pet owners in Bengaluru can now Uber with their furry friends. The popular ridesharing app has launched Uber Pet in the Garden City, allowing riders to commute with their four-legged buddies. This is a reserve-only service currently only available on Uber in Bengaluru, making trips to that grooming appointment or sprawling park across the city a lot easier. You can pre-book an Uber Pet ride from 60 minutes to 90 days in advance.

What you need to know

Before you decide to book a trip with your pet, there are a few things you need to know. Uber Pet only extends their services to dogs and cats, so pets like birds, goldfish or tortoises don’t qualify, unfortunately. Passengers can commute with either one cat or one dog only, and must acknowledge that certain breeds of dogs are restricted. Your pet needs to either be on a leash, harness or in some sort of enclosure while you are in the taxi, and you are required to carry a health certificate issued by a qualified veterinarian for your pet. This service does not allow pets to commute alone in the taxi, either the owner or an attendant needs to accompany the furball. Uber has not yet confirmed plans to roll out this service in cities other than Bengaluru.

Do’s and Don'ts

  • Bring a blanket, wet wipes, pet diapers, puppy pads and all the other ammunition that will help prevent a mess.
  • Ensure your pet’s nails are trimmed to prevent any damage to the car seats.
  • Carry water and a portable drinking bowl for your pet along the way.
  • Other than water, don’t feed your pet anything during the ride.
