Odd trend on Chinese social media sees dog owners using fruits

This is not the first time we’ve been surprised by a trend involving fruit.

Over the past few months, dog owners in China have taken to Xiao Hong Shu to share clips of themselves dyeing their white fur babies in different shades of pink and green.

What's interesting is the dye used by these fur parents is made from vegetables and fruits, namely dragonfruit, spinach, and pumpkin.

They first cut the fruits or greens into small pieces, blend them, then sieve them to get a super-thin juice, which acts as a dye.

The result? Vibrant coloured dogs a la 2000s cartoon character, Courage the Cowardly Dog.

While many netizens were amused by the finished product, with some gushing over how adorable the pups looked, others were concerned if the process was uncomfortable for the dogs.

One video showed the pup’s fur getting all tangled and sticky after too much dragon fruit juice was applied to it.

However, according to groomers and vets, these natural dyes do not pose any harm to the dog’s health, and are easily washed off after a bath.

The internet is divided between people who think the temporary dye is all done in good fun, and those who believe that the process brings “unnecessary stress” for the dogs.
