Kitty found overheating

The Okanagan Humane Society (OHS), with the help of a concerned Kelowna resident, rescued a very hot, long-haired cat baking under a car on Monday morning.
The cat was located on the pavement at Orchard Park Mall and was spotted by a man walking by.
OHS president Romany Runnalls says the individual contacted the volunteer rescue organization right away.
“It was really quite terrified, so he did give it some water,” Runnalls said.
A volunteer managed to quickly get to the area and pulled the cat to safety.
“The pavement was scorching hot already. She crawled under the car and managed to entice the kitty out. That tells us it's a tame cat.”
The animal was taken for treatment at Alpine Pet Hospital.
A microchip was detected and OHS is currently in communication with the owner.
OHS says pet owners must be extremely vigilant in the hot summer months.
“Don't take your animals in the car. Leave them at home. Even in the evening… the heat at night… it doesn't cool off in the evening. The engine heat inside the car is the big contributor to the heat in there.”
Lots of fresh, cool water is also required.
“Keep your eyes out for animals that appear to be in distress. We are seeing a lot of dogs on the run lately, and they are getting heatstroke quickly. Don't run your dogs. It's not good for them at this time of year with these temperatures,” Runnalls added.
