The parents of a 14-year-old skateboarder promised they’d get her a pet duck if she won a gold medal in the Olympics.
So she won.
People reports how Arisa Trew of Cairns — a city in Queensland, Australia — actually made history on Tuesday as the youngest Australian to win a medal at the Games.
And while getting a gold for being the creme de la creme in the world athletics is nice, yes, Trew appears to have cared about one thing post-winning: The duck her parents promised as a gift.
“My parents promised if I won the gold medal, I would get a pet duck,” said she to reporters during a press conference. “Ducks are really cute and I really wanted a pet duck.”
But apart from that, why a duck? Why not, a dog or a cat?
“My parents definitely wouldn’t let me get a dog or a cat because we are traveling so much right now,” told Trew to Nine.com.au. “But I feel like a duck might be a little bit easier, and … I don’t know, I just want a duck.
“It will just be in my yard and I”ll get a little pool thing or it.”
According to the same Nine.com.au article, Trew also intends to win another gold at the next Olympics in Los Angeles, Calif.
Whether her parents have promised her a different pet as incentive in the future remains unconfirmed.
