NORTH PORT – One man and four pets died in a Saturday house fire in the 3800 block of Trenton Lane, according to a news release from North Port Fire Rescue.
The fire had already been extinguished when firefighters responded to the call at 12:10 p.m. Saturday.
Firefighters reported no fire was visible from the exterior when they arrived.
Firefighters found an extinguished fire which appeared to have originated in the kitchen area of this single-story home.
Smoke and soot were present throughout the home.
Further investigation revealed an adult male deceased in a rear bedroom of the home.
Two cats and two dogs also perished.
Firefighters worked to ventilate the structure and ensured that all fire was extinguished.
No working smoke alarms were present in the home.
North Port Fire Rescue spokesman Benny Fulkerson said Monday that the State Fire Marshal concluded its investigation on Saturday and classified the fire as accidental.
North Port Police are continuing an investigation of the fire.
