Oregon man caught abusing dog on camera sentenced to 16 months in prison

PORTLAND, Ore.
(KATU) — The man who was caught on camera abusing a dog in an elevator found out his fate on Friday.

This morning, Isaac Booker Justham pled guilty and was sentenced to 16 months in prison.
He will receive credit for time served, eight months, and can't have a domestic animal (pet) for 15 years.

Justham was arrested on Saturday, August 17, 2024, after Portland Police say he abused a dog.

Police released a video that showed an individual, now identified as Justham, beating a dog in an elevator in northeast Portland.

“Anybody that's willing to do this to a helpless and vulnerable animal, we have significant concern about what they may be capable of doing to another person or another animal,” said Sgt.
Matt Jacobsen with the Portland Police Bureau’s Major Crimes Unit, back in August.

Police at the time said Justham abused the dog, including hitting the dog with a heavy rope, and hanging the dog from a fire extinguisher so it could be repeatedly kicked.

Justham was taken into custody after tips from the community led detectives to positively identify him.
He was booked into the Multnomah County Jail on three felony counts of aggravated animal abuse in the first degree and several outstanding warrants.

A grand jury returned indictments on August 23, 2024.

On Friday, April 11, 2025, the Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office confirmed to KATU News that the dog has never been located.
