Overlooked dog Tess makes a 100-mile trip to RSPCA Preston in search of new home

Tess, an eight-year-old mastiff cross, travelled from North Yorkshire to Lancashire to find new adopters.

After arriving at the RSPCA’s Great Ayton Animal Centre in December 2023, she spent a year yearning for a home.

Becoming a firm favourite amongst the Great Ayton staff, the dog was said to be “overlooked” by adopters in that area.

Since making the trip and arriving at RSPCA’s Preston & District Branch Centre, in Ribbleton, Tess has since received no rehoming applications.

Preston Animal Centre Manager Ashleigh Kay said: “Tess is a really lovely gentle giant so we can’t understand why there continues to be such little interest in her.

“She isn’t fazed by new surroundings, and although she can sometimes be a little unsure about new people, it doesn’t last long.”

Ashleigh also described her as a “spritely girl” despite her age. Her interests are also said to include running and playing with toys.

Tess will need to be the only pet in the household and can be rehomed with children aged 16 and above.
