MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) – According to multiple Chickasaw residents, a pack of dogs has been terrorizing and killing cats.

After 10 years with her therapy cat, Tigger, Tina Haygood experienced her worst nightmare.

Haygood said one day after opening her back door for fresh air, a Pit Bull got into her home.

“I was sweeping my kitchen out and my cat was sitting by the door just staring out,” Haygood said. “All of a sudden, he poofed up and I didn’t know what was wrong with him. He turned to run, and this big Pit Bull came out of nowhere and ran right through my kitchen.”

This was just the first incident she experienced.

Haygood said she was recently in the hospital and asked her daughter to check on her cats. Upon arrival, Haygood’s daughter found the remains of Tigger.

According to the family, multiple dogs had come into the home where Tigger was sleeping on the bed. They reported the dogs got in through a back door that did not close properly and killed Haygood’s cat.

This is not just a life lost, Haygood said the passing of her cat has affected her emotionally.

He was 10 years old. He was my baby,” she said. “I have nightmares and I can’t even sleep. All I see is him being mauled by dogs.”

Haygood is not the only victim. Multiple reports of a pack of dogs killing cats are in a Facebook group “Voices of Chickasaw.”

One post said, “Dogs out. Shredded my cat to pieces on 6th Street.”

According to Jake McDuffie with the Chickasaw Police Department, they are aware of the attacks and are taking action.

“We are trying to get these dogs,” McDuffie said. “If we do find out that they do belong to someone, that pet owner will be held liable.”

Haygood reported her door that the dogs went through has since been fixed.

If you see or know where the dogs are, contact Chickasaw Police at (251)380-8334 to notify them immediately.
