A new pet store in Cape Girardeau is literally one for the birds. Lisa Franceschi and her two daughters are opening Parrot Palace, a pet store that sells parrots and parrot supplies.
The store is set to open Friday, May 2, at 1131 N. Kingshighway, Suite F.
Franceschi said she had dreamed of opening a parrot-specific store for the last seven years. She has owned parrots for more than twice that long and currently has a flock of 30 birds.
Parrot Palace will have a diverse array of species for sale, including cockatoos and cockatiels, quaker and Senegal parrots, parakeets, sun conures, macaws and more.
“We have access to anything that somebody would want. I have relationships with breeders across the U.S.,” Franceschi said.
Toys, cages, bird food and health supplies will all be available for purchase at the store. Franceschi and her daughters will also offer boarding, beak trimming, nail grinding and, when appropriate, wing clipping.
Parrot Palace will also test birds for their sex; for most of the birds the store sells, checking their DNA is the only way to determine if they are male or female. Health and wellness testing will also be available for most common diseases.
“If somebody felt like their bird might have something going on, then we can always test for that. It’s sent off to a lab that’s ran by veterinarians. We have an account with them so we can coordinate that,” Franceschi said.
