Pasadena Humane issues urgent plea for dog fosters as shelter nears full capacity – San Gabriel Valley Tribune

Pasadena Humane has issued an urgent plea for fosters to help alleviate overcrowding in its dog kennels, which are nearing full capacity with more than 100 dogs currently housed.

“URGENT: Our dog kennels are almost completely full, and we need your help,” the animal shelter wrote on its Instagram page Thursday, Oct. 3. “We are urgently in need of dog fosters, especially those who can take in some of our more active large dogs and who do not have any other pets.”

This plea comes as animal shelters across Los Angeles are facing an escalating overcrowding crisis, driven by a range of factors, including budget cuts, insufficient spay and neuter services, a lack of pet-inclusive housing and affordability challenges faced by owners. Shelters in the area are currently operating at more than 175% capacity.

“By fostering, you are providing a loving, temporary home for a shelter dog while opening up kennel space for an animal in need of immediate care,” Pasadena Humane said.

In an effort to encourage adoption, the shelter has waived adoption fees for all dogs six months or older through Oct. 12.
