LINCOLN PARK — Chicagoans looking to add some four-legged love to their home might find their match at PAWS Chicago’s Holiday Adopt-A-Thon, running Friday through Dec. 21.
PAWS, the city’s largest no-kill shelter, hopes to match 200 dogs and cats with new families before the year ends. Prospective adopters can meet animals of all ages, from playful kittens to easy-going adult dogs.
The shelter’s Pippen Fasseas Adoption Center, 1997 N. Clybourn Ave., will have extended hours for the adopt-a-thon on the following days: 11 a.m.-7 p.m. Friday and noon-8 p.m. Dec. 19-20.
The adoption center’s regular hours are noon-7 p.m. Monday-Friday and 11 a.m.-7 p.m. on weekends.
While appointments are recommended for the adoption event, walk-in visitors are welcome to meet available pets. The shelter requires that all household members are present during the adoption process to ensure compatible matches. Staff and volunteers will be on hand for consultation and guidance.
“When you adopt, you’re not only saving a life, but also making room to save even more pets in need,” Paula Fasseas, PAWS Chicago founder and executive chair, said in a news release. “Adopting a pet during the holidays brings unconditional love and joy into your home, creating lasting memories for both you and your new companion.”
Since the organization’s establishment in 1997, the city’s homeless pet euthanasia rate has dropped by 90 percent, according to PAWS.
