Paws of War is working to get Koda moved to the U.S.

NESCONSET, New York – (June 12, 2024) – It's not every day that you come across a stray three-legged dog in dire need of help, but that's precisely what happened to U.S. Army Specialist Cedwin. Serving a deployment in the Middle East, she noticed a dog struggling and it was 130 degrees outside and he had no water. When she got closer, she saw a German shepherd missing a leg and struggling to survive. This set off a rescue effort that has led Paws of War to work on getting the dog she named Koda moved to America.

“We have rescued Koda, but there is no way that he dog can survive on his own in this harsh climate and with his condition,” said Robert Misseri, the co-founder of Paws of War. “Koda deserves to come to America and live a safe and happy life with Spc. Cedwin.”

Spc. Cedwin is on a mission of compassion to get Koda moved to America, and she has gotten the support of Paws of War to help make that happen. After spending time nursing Koda back from his deteriorating health to a healthy state and bonding with him, she inquired with fellow soldiers and authorities about getting him moved to America. She was told it was too large of a mission and that she would need to say goodbye. Not willing to give up, she turned to Paws of War for the assistance they had provided many soldiers before her.

Paws of War immediately stepped in and got Koda placed at a trusted short-term shelter until they could get him permanently moved to the U.S. It's a costly mission, which is why they are seeking the support of those in the community. Together, they will be able to carry out the mission of compassion. They will need assistance covering the costs of transporting Koda and providing medical and ongoing care, which includes being fitted for a canine prosthetic.

“Leaving Koda behind would go against my moral code,” says Spc. Cedwin. “There's no way I'm leaving him to die. I am determined to bring him home and ensure his safety and well-being. I named him Koda because it means friend in Arabic. It fits his gentle nature and unwavering spirit perfectly.”
