Pensacola’s Barktoberfest draws crowds, promotes shelter pet adoptions

PENSACOLA, Fla. — The Pensacola Humane Society celebrated its annual Barktoberfest on Sunday.

Hundreds of people and their four-legged friends packed Seville Square.

Many participated in the look-a-like contest. It also featured other events like small dog races, large dog races, and an obstacle course.

There were also many vendors and other fun activities on site.

The humane society says its push is to bring awareness to the need for shelter adoptions and fostering animals.

“We’re letting people know that shelter dogs are great dogs and cats,” Program Director Tiffany Daniel said. “They just need loving homes. We take care of them and treat them like our own pets, until we are able to find their forever home.”

The humane society says the event has become one of the most anticipated celebrations of the year for dog lovers.

The proceeds from the event help the humane society help homeless animals.
