The Kansas City Fire Department is investigating after a house fire left one person hospitalized and pets dead. Firefighters responded to the 2600 block of McKinley around 12:30 p.m. Monday. When they arrived, they saw smoke and fire coming from the single-family home. One person was treated on the scene for smoke inhalation and taken to the hospital. They were in stable condition. The other person who lives in the home was not there at the time. Multiple cats were killed in the fire. The Red Cross will assist the two adult occupants of the house. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
