Ahmedabad: An unidentified car driver hit a pet dog, nine-month-old, near a flyover beside Seventh Day Adventist School in Khokhra during the wee hours of Monday.
I-Division traffic police filed a complaint of killing or maiming an animal along with charges of rash driving and endangering others’ lives under the IPC against a man from Navsari.
Inspector Mahesh Patel of the traffic police said that the incident took place when the dog owner, Mehul Thakor, 22, a resident of Haripura Dheeraj housing in Khokhra, took his pet on a walk late on Sunday night.
At that time, a speeding car hit Thakor and his dog and fled away. Thakor suffered injuries on his hands and the dog died on the spot, said Patel. Thakor approached police and filed the complaint. This is a rare occurrence where police have filed a complaint in a hit-and-run incident killing a dog.
A postmortem examination of the dog was conducted. The accused is yet to be arrested.

7-yr-old killed in hit-and-run near Koradi
A seven-year-old boy, Shivan Medoliya, was killed in a hit-and-run near the Koradi Naka on Saoner-Nagpur Road. He was crossing the road with his family when he was hit by a vehicle. The driver fled the scene. Shivan was declared dead at a private hospital. An offence was registered with the Koradi police station. A 64-year-old man, Kishor Bansode, hanged himself to death at his residence in Ashirwad Nagar. Bansode, who was unwell, took this drastic decision while alone in the house. The Sakkardara police station registered a case of accidental death.
