In a distressing incident reported from a pet boarding facility in Thane, two pet dogs were severely abused and injured. Pet owners were shocked to see their Golden Retriever and Toy Poodle beaten up at the ‘Dogs and Me' centre. Of the two pets, the Poodle was brutally assaulted and made to lose vision in one of its eyes.
Dog loses vision after assault at pet boarding facility
Identified as an eight-month-old doggy named Dollar, the Poodle witnessed a horrible situation when it was taken to the boarding facility. Due to mishandling and assault, the dog lost sight in one of its eyes. It underwent surgery where its eyeball was removed. Chilling visuals showed Dollar's eye swollen up. The dog was reported to have suffered “under-eye hemorrhages”.
The video shared by animal welfare groups displayed the photos of the doggy before and after its visit to the Thane-based boarding space, highlighting how badly the animal was assaulted.
The blurry CCTV camera footage recorded the boarding facility staffers slapping and mistreating multiple dogs at the premises.
It was brought to light that Dollar not only lost its vision in one eye but also lost weight due to stress caused during the incident. Meanwhile, another dog, a Golden Retriever named Whiskey taken to the centre also suffered during its admission there. Identified to be nearly two years old, Whiskey was physically abused multiple times, leaving him in pain and emotionally distressed.
‘Betrayed' pet parent speaks
Pet parent of the two dogs, Abhishek Kumar, was quoted in social media posts as saying, “We trusted them to take care of our dogs, and they betrayed us in the worst way”.
FIR lodged
The Thane police took note of the incident and lodged an FIR under the relevant sections of BNS. “A formal complaint was filed with the Vartak Nagar Police Station by the guardians with PETA India’s guidance and support. Following coordination with police officials, an FIR was registered against 4 named individuals – the owners and staff of ‘Dogs and Me, Pet’s Resort and Training School’ under sections 325 and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, and Section 11(1)(a) of The Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (PCA) Act, 1960, for the dastardly assault that left a dog permanently blind in one eye – amounting to maiming,” informed PETA India's Ashar Meet.
