CHARLESTON COUNTY, S.C. (WCIV) — “Adopt, don’t shop” is the message from Pet Helpers, trying to help cats and dogs 6 months and older find a loving home.

Pet Helpers is participating in the ‘Empty The Shelter’ campaign as part of their mission to end the euthanasia of all adoptable cats and dogs by operating a no-kill shelter and promoting forever adoptions for animals who have been rescued in the Charleston area. This is part of a national initiative from Bissel Pet Foundation.

“Help us find the greatest homes for them so we can continue saving,” Carol Linville, CEO and Founder of Pet Helpers told News 4. “We have animals coming in every day. A lot of cats and kittens. The hurricane has only added to the desperate need for intake. We are trying to help in that area.”

Pet Helpers said both Hurricane Helene and Hurricane Milton have increased their intake, making this years national adoption campaign even more important. They said when you adopt you save two lives – the adopted pet and the one who takes their place in the shelter.

“We need you, the community, to make room for one more animal that you can afford to take in,” Linville said.

Pet Helpers will help new pet-parents by offering pet essentials like food and even a few toys when you bring a pet home.

Prior to adoption, all Pet Helpers dogs and cats receive a comprehensive veterinary exam. All animals are spayed or neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and ready to go home.

During the empty the shelter initiative, adoption fees are reduced to $50 through October 15, 2024.

“Come in and meet our wonderful babies. You'll be glad you did, and it's a wonderful new experience when you bring a new baby home.” Linville shared.

You can preview adoptable animals on Pet Helpers website. Pet Helpers is open 12-5 for adoptions at 1447 Folly Road.
