Following roughly two days of quarantine to counter a mysterious ailment among dogs, the Prince George’s Animal Services Facility and Adoption Center (ASFAC) has resumed dog adoptions and viewings. A canine illness was first detected on Nov. 13 and was contained to the intake room due to the quarantine.
“With shelters nationwide facing overcrowding, we’re seeing a rise in disease, and we’re acting quickly to help stop the spread,” said Associate Director of the Department of Animal Services David Fisher.
ASFAC is still operating above capacity, with over 7,000 animals cared for this year.
The on-site animals include dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, and goats.
To help reduce the spread of illness, ASFAC advises keeping pets up to date on their vaccinations, avoiding communal water bowls, and seeking veterinary care if symptoms like coughing or a runny nose develop.
