FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) – Our Pet of the Week is Hazel, a confident and friendly lady who loves a good game of fetch.
Hazel is a 7-year-old spayed female German Shepherd mixed breed, who has been at the Fairbanks Animal Shelter since May 10. She is described as out-going and affectionate with people of all ages. She is quick to enjoy a friendly game of tug-of-war when you offer her a toy.
Her prior owners said that Hazel needs to be given time to adjust to new dogs. She does well with slow, low-pressure introductions, but her guard might come up when she is rushed. She has never had experience with any cats or smaller animals. It is important to keep in mind that German Shepherds can have higher prey drives, so please conduct slow, safe introductions with any new friends.
Hazel is both kennel trained and housebroken, and is said to ride well in cars. She does have a few allergy issues, including spring seasonal allergies, which her prior owners said can be managed relatively easily.
If you are interested in meeting Hazel or any of her friends at the Fairbanks Animal Shelter, please call them at (907) 459-1451.
