Marshmallow, an almost eight-month-old sheep with a unique personality, has been named the “Luverne Veterinary Hospital’s Pet of the Week”. Owned by Kayla Strickland of Luverne, Marshmallow is not your typical sheep. In fact, he might be a little confused about his species.

According to Strickland, Marshmallow believes he’s more of a dog than a sheep, thanks to his close friendship with Dixie and his other canine siblings. Marshmallow and Dixie are inseparable, spending their days playing and gallivanting together with the rest of the canine pack.

Marshmallow knows his name and comes running whenever he is called. He is always ready for playtime. But despite his affinity for dog-like activities, Marshmallow maintains some sheepish habits.

He enjoys his nighttime feed, though he’s not a fan of bread — a typical favorite among other sheep. When it’s time to rest, Marshmallow curls up in his igloo dog house, nestled inside his personal shed.

The Luverne Journal invites pet owners to enter their pets for a chance to be featured as the “Pet of the Week,” “Pet of the Season” or even “Pet of the Year.” Sponsored by Luverne Veterinary Hospital, the winner of the quarterly “Pet of the Season” contest receives a personalized prize package from Luverne Veterinary Hospital valued at $250 and the opportunity to compete for the grand prize and earn the coveted title of “Luverne Veterinary Hospital Pet of the Year.”
