Palakkad: A man was arrested on Thursday after his pet dog attacked and seriously injured a youth in Kerala’s Palakkad district. Mahesh, a milk distributor, was brutally attacked by a pitbull dog on Tuesday.
Dog owner Stephan, a native of Pullathuparam was arrested on Thursday. Mahesh had suffered grievous injuries after the pitbull attacked him when he arrived in an auto rickshaw to collect milk from a neighbouring farm in the morning. Mahesh was mauled by the dog for over 10 minutes until he passed out and was eventually rescued by Stephen after he managed to pull away his dog. A portion of his ear and lips were bitten off in the attack.
Apart from the police case, Shornur municipality has also sought an explanation from Stephen over irresponsible handling of the ‘dangerous dog’. His house owner too has reportedly asked Stephen to vacate the house.

Mahesh is undergoing treatment at a nearby hospital and his condition is said to be stable.
On Tuesday night, a toddler was injured in a stray dog attack in Palakkad. The child’s ear was bitten off in the attack.
