A new Pet Supplies Plus store has opened in Port Jefferson Station.

The chain’s newest area location is in the Nesconset Center retail complex at 4860 Nesconset Highway.

The Port Jefferson Station store is the company’s 11th Long Island location, joining others in East Meadow, Manhasset, Oceanside, West Hempstead, Valley Stream, Smithtown, Medford, Lake Ronkonkoma, Central Islip and East Northport.

The new store is owned by franchisee Abbas Dastgir, who aims to work with local animal shelters, rescue organizations and nonprofits to host year-round adoption events, fundraisers, pet food and product drives.

“At Pet Supplies Plus, we treat every pet like family because we understand the special bond between pets and their owners,” Dastgir said in a company statement. “Being a trusted part of the community and providing everything pets need is at the heart of what we do, and I’m excited to bring this mission to Port Jefferson Station.”

The Pet Supplies Plus store offers a variety of natural pet foods and products for cats, dogs, reptiles, birds, fish, and small animals. It also has a grooming salon, self-serve wash stations, and carry-out service where team members carry heavy items to neighbors’ cars.

Headquartered in Livonia, Mich., Pet Supplies Plus began franchising in 1989 and now has more than 730 stores in 44 states. The all-in cost to open a Pet Supplies Plus franchise ranges from $498,000 to $1.9 million.

The Port Jefferson Station store is open Mondays through Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
