A whopping 70 per cent of Australian cats have gum or dental disease, and if left untreated, this can turn into gingivitis, affecting their blood and other organs of the body.

Like humans, cats need a daily, at-home, effective dental care routine but our pets suffer because there is a distinct lack of options available down under.

In a survey conducted about domestic pet ownership in 2022, dogs and cats were the most popular domestic pets for Australians, with around 48 per cent of people owning dogs and around 33 per cent owning cats, which equates to approximately five million.

Until now, there have been no products available in Australia that are healthy, natural and effective at preventing and reducing plaque and tartar in cats.

Concerned with their wellbeing, Bell & Bone is preparing to release its $12.99 industry-changing Dental Bites for Cats in three delicious flavours: Chicken with Blueberries, Tuna with Spirulina and Salmon with Charcoal.

The bites are full of superfoods, vitamins and minerals that prevent and reduce plaque and tartar, such as zinc, ascorbic acid, cellulose and ascophyllum nodosum.

They come with a clear feeding guide to help support you on your journey of giving your cat a healthier and happier life.

“Cats are such a big, important part of our community but are often forgotten about when it comes to nutrition, education and availability of good, healthy products,” Bell & Bone founder Arianne Sackville said.

“Just like dog owners, cat owners also want the best for their pets but it just hasn’t been available to them.

“I have created Bell & Bone Dental Bites for Cats because our cats deserve products that positively impact their dental hygiene and their overall health and wellbeing.

“Our competitors’ products are simply unhealthy, using ingredients like wheat, rice and corn to bulk them out. I created Bell & Bone Dental Bites for Cats because our pets (and their owners) deserve more.”

The treats will be available from November 2024 on the Bell & Bone website.

Arianne was forging a successful career in a big food manufacturing company more than eight years ago when she realised that the best moment of her day was returning home after work. The reason? Her dog, Louie.

After months of this came her ‘ah-ha’ moment.

Sick of going into pet shops and being bamboozled by the array of pet food brands, many of which purported to be healthy but seemed anything but, Arianne decided to create something herself.

She loved food manufacture and she loved animals so why not combine the two and make healthy treats for her furry friends?

“In researching what to buy for my puppy Louie to eat, I found that nothing satisfied me,” Arianne said. “Often, the larger the company the worse the quality, and many of the smaller brands were not tried and tested, but rather passion projects without the clinical expertise.”

In 2018, her business Bell & Bone was born — with a focus on natural, top-quality ingredients paired with clinical expertise, meaning customers knew the pet food they were getting was one they could really trust.

As well as promoting better dental health in pups and kittens across the nation Bell & Bone partners with RSPCA Victoria and donates 10c from every bag sold to the animal charity.
