More than three dozen dogs and a kitten displaced by the devastating Eaton Fire in Los Angeles County have been transported to the San Diego area, where they all will be put up for adoption, animal-welfare officials announced Thursday.
The San Diego Humane Society took custody of the 40 homeless pets to help its counterpart agency in Pasadena “deal with an incredible influx of animals” in need of emergency care and shelter due to the 13,600-acre conflagration northeast of downtown Los Angeles, SDHS spokesperson Nina Thompson said.
Four shelter-staff teams from San Diego traveled to Pasadena on Thursday to bring back 28 of the dogs along with the baby cat, Thompson said. On Wednesday, two SDHS teams made the trip to pick up 11 dogs from the beleaguered Los Angeles-area Humane Society, she said.
All the pets transported were already available for adoption in Pasadena when the disastrous firestorm struck.
San Diego County residents are encouraged to help animal-welfare authorities deal with the crisis by adopting or fostering the displaced animals.
“San Diego Humane Society is already over capacity with dogs, and now (is) helping our partners in Pasadena due to this catastrophic event,” Thompson said.
