JACKSON, MI — The Jackson County Animal Shelter, 3770 Spring Arbor Road, has many pets available for adoption.
Here are two of them.
Ethel is a 2-year-old Akita who came in as a stray. She was roaming with her sister, another Akita named Lucy, who is also available.
Ethel is friendly, house trained and knows basic commands. She walks nicely on the leash and likes to go outdoors.
Akitas form strong and loyal bonds with their owners. They are intelligent, brave and can be protective. These large dogs have a double coat and shed heavily twice a year. Ethel is a beauty with classic markings.
Vixen is a 3-year-old brown tabby cat with a white chin. She certainly is not a true ‘vixen’, but a loveable, calm and sweet girl.
Vixen is housed with other cats and she gets along well with everyone. Mostly, she just wants to cuddle up on these cold days and be a lap warmer. She is smaller in size at just under 7 pounds.
Dog adoptions require an application, online. A meet-and-greet with a dog also is mandatory. A cat room walk-through is available to test reaction. The dog adoption fee is $150 for medium and large dogs and $250 for puppies and small dogs, which includes vaccinations, microchip and sterilization.
Cat adoption fees are $60 for one cat, $80 for two, which includes applicable tests, vaccinations and spay/neutering.
Visiting the shelter is always best, but other adoption resources include online applications at https://www.co.jackson.mi.us/2302/Our-Adoptable-Animals, faxing 517-780-4750 or emailing animalshelter@mijackson.org.
