Every year, 6.2 million pets enter shelters, and today many across the nation are overflowing.
Midlands Humane Society is proud to partner with PetSmart Charities to bring adoptable pets to the Council Bluffs PetSmart in support of PetSmart Charities National Adoption Week, which runs through Nov. 12. The goal is to find loving homes for animals while also alleviating the strains of having kennel space at capacity.
Staff and volunteers will be at PetSmart in Council Bluffs on Wednesday from 3 to 6 p.m., Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
During the in-store event, Midlands Humane Society invites potential pet parents to meet adoptable pets in their area. Whether cat, dog or small critter, Midlands Humane Society might just have your next furry friend.
Opportunities will be given to spend time with pets in spacious meet and greet areas, and staff and volunteers will help potential adopters learn about caring for pets and point to welcome resources.

All cats and dogs are spayed/neutered, vaccinated with age and species appropriate vaccines, given parasite prevention and are microchipped.
Aren’t sure if you’re ready to adopt? Please consider fostering! This not only gets them out into loving homes, but it helps alleviate overcrowding at shelters and can be an ideal opportunity to really get to know the animals.
MHS provides all supplies and fosters provide their homes and their hearts. Fosters should also be able to transport animals to and from MHS for scheduled medical checkups. Brutus is a 12-year-old neutered male Chihuahua/Dachshund mix who will be a great little lap dog. While in his kennel, Brutus made friends with his neighbor, a little Shiba Inu named Shye (already adopted). They wanted to be together so badly that they moved the divider between their kennels multiple times so they could cuddle up together. Brutus just wants all your love and a nice, cozy home where he can spend his golden years.
Prudence is a 2-year-old spayed female Domestic Short Hair who is ready to be your purrfect princess and only cat as she doesn’t like to share her attention. She likes to spend most of her time curled up with a cozy blanket and we think she would love to be your new lap cat. Prudence needs just a little bit of time to warm up to new people, but when she does, she’s as sweet as can be.
Apollo is a 1-year-old neutered male German Shepherd who was left abandoned in an apartment after his owners moved out. He is very intelligent, motivated to learn, and is ready for a dedicated owner who will prioritize his training and enrichment. He will need plenty of mental and physical stimulation to keep him happy and on his best behavior.
Boo is a 1.5-year-old spayed female Australian Shepherd mix who is very happy go lucky and loves just about everyone she meets. She is treat motivated so training with her should be a breeze. Boo has plenty of energy so she will need regular exercise to keep her happy. In her previous home, Boo was not doing well with the farm animals. She has done great in playgroup with other dogs at MHS.
