The Laredo Animal Protective Society and Best Friends for Life — both local organizations that seek to rescue and help animals find forever homes — are hosting pet adoption events together in honor of the 30th anniversary of National Adoption Week, which runs from Monday, July 15 to Sunday, July 21.
The event will be held from 2-5 p.m. on Saturday, July 20 and Sunday, July 21 at PetSmart, located at 10816 International Boulevard. It will be done in partnership with PetSmart Charities.
“For 30 years, PetSmart Charities and local partners have been helping pets find people to love,” PetSmart Charities Director of Pet Placement Initiatives Heidi Marston said. “Shelters across the country are full, and pets of all ages, breeds and temperaments are looking for their new families.”
During the in-store event, BFFL and LAPS will have adoptable cats and dogs for pet-lovers to interact with. With staff and volunteers on hand, it’ll be a seamless process for those interested in taking a cat, dog, kitten or puppy home.
National Adoption Week coincides with kitten season, referring to the annual boom of kittens following peak breeding season for cats. This is why BFFL, which solely focuses on rescuing cats, is looking forward to participating.
“This National Adoption Week, we’re putting a special focus on our feline friends with scores of kittens entering shelters and rescues in need of adoption,” Marston said. “We can’t do it without the community’s support. If you have room in your heart and at home, please consider adopting or fostering.”
