PHARR, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The City of Pharr Public Health Department is introducing a community campaign titled “I Love My Pet Emergency Rescue Sticker.”
The campaign’s goal is to enchance pet safety and welfare during emergencies and disater situations.
Cynthia Gutierrez, director of public health for the City of Pharr, said the stickers are meant to make first responders aware which homes have dogs, cats or other pets in emergency situations.
“The goal is to have safe pets, to give pets a fighting chance,” Gutierrez said.
She added that in many cases first responders go into an emergency and they don’t know there is a pet inside.
“We love our pets, we treat them like family and I am very glad the Pharr Fire Department and Police Department are on board and understand the importance of knowing which homes have pets,” Gutierrez said.
Pharr residents who own pets and are interested in picking up a sticker can do so at the Pharr Animal Care Services, public works, fire department, police department and the Pharr One building during operation hours.
