The BBC star is known for being an auctioneer and antiques expert
Philip Serrell, the beloved antiques expert and auctioneer, is once again gracing our screens on BBC One's ‘Bargain Hunt'. Known for his extensive knowledge in antiques, he began his career as a livestock auctioneer before becoming a chartered surveyor in 1988, focusing on antiques.
While his television appearances on shows like ‘Bargain Hunt' and ‘Flog It!' have made him a household name, fans are also curious about his personal life. Philip is happily married to Briony Serrell, and they have a daughter named Clementine, who is in her 30s, works as a personal trainer, and runs her own cake business.
Aside from his family, Philip has a deep affection for his dogs and used to share snapshots of them on X, which was previously known as Twitter.
In a heartwarming January post, he shared a video of his furry friends relaxing by the fire, captioning it: “There's something about a fire on a January Sunday with your two best mates.”
During the festive season, he humorously remarked that his dogs were “not spoilt”, alongside a photo of one dog next to an impressive stack of gifts.
The Serrell family's canine companions are named Daphne, Wilma, and Valerie, all Bedlington Terriers, a breed Philip is particularly fond of. He often expresses his love for terriers, recalling his first Jack Russell Terrier named Lucy, up to his current Bedlington companions.
Philip's passion for these breeds extends beyond his own pets; he has supported the Bedlington Terrier Rescue Foundation by serving as a celebrity judge for their calendar photo contest.
Philip resides in Worcester, and he doesn't have far to travel for work as Philip Serrell Auctioneers and Valuers operate out of The Malvern Saleroom right on his doorstep.
The firm's website provides a bit of its storied history: “We have been established as one of Worcestershire's premier independent auction houses since 1995, and experienced in the area for some 40 years, though the origins of the business date back to the 18th Century.”
In May 2024, Philip will be giving an enlightening chat on his auctioneer experiences and his antiques fascination in Worcestershire.
At 70, Philip has a love for wide-open spaces which fits perfectly with his line of work. He shared his thoughts on journeys across the country: “Travelling around the country is great fun meeting different people and seeing different places.”
As for his preferred spots for snagging deals, he remarked with affection: “I like some of the big outside fairs… in the sun though and not when it's wet.”
The TV personality reveals he's also quite the sports enthusiast, saying: “I spend a lot of time watching sport and telling them all how good I used to be. The older I get the better I was.”
Bargain Hunt airs on BBC One on weekdays at 12.15pm
