The police have arrested a man whose dogs killed a security man at Pinnock estate in Lagos.

Police spokesman, Benjamin Hundeyin, disclosed this on his ‘X” page, stating that the owner is now in police custody.

If found guilty, he would be charged with misdemeanour and face two years imprisonment.

Hundeyin’s reaction came after a video was shared online, which showed three dogs hovering around the lifeless body of a security guard.

Reacting to Hundeyin’s statement, some Nigerians claimed that the act was not carried out by the dogs while others called for justice for the victim.

Meanwhile, Hundeyin has assured Nigerians that investigations are ongoing to ensure the culprit will be brought to book.

Recently, the police warned dog owners about careless handling of the animals, and how they could land them into trouble.

Osun State police spokesperson, Yemisi Opalola, warned dog owners to cage their pets or risk arrest, adding that the warning became necessary following the increasing rate of dog attacks on people in the state.

She said allowing dogs to roam unrestrained violates the Dog Act Cap 35 Law of the Federation of Nigeria and reiterated that “if any dog gets loose and bites anybody outside the compound, it is an offence.”

“To this end, the Police Command enjoins members of the public to restrain their dogs in their houses in cages/leashes to reduce attacks on people,” She said.
