Portland is one of the best cities in the US for a dog-friendly vacation, according to Forbes Advisor.

Forbes “analyzed the 98 most populated U.S.
cities with available data across 10 pet- and travel-related metrics.” The ranking “considered pet-friendly accommodations, the number of pet-friendly restaurants, the number and quality of pet clinics in each city, the percentage of dog-friendly hiking trails, dog parks and other metrics to reveal the best cities in America for a dog-friendly vacation.”

Portland came in at the No.
2 spot, behind Sacramento.

Three other California cities rounded out the top five: San Francisco, Bakersfield and Long Beach.

Portland got high marks for its number of dog parks per capita, dog-friendly dining scene, dog-friendly hotels and walkability.

Even outside of Portland, Oregon is considered one of the most dog-friendly states in the country.

In 2019, a Safewise survey found that Oregon is the most overall pet-friendly state in the U.S.

Dog parks in Independence and Albany made a USA Today list of the best dog parks.

Headlands Coastal Lodge & Spa in Pacific City and The Hotel Zags in Portland were ranked in the top 20 on a similar list earlier this summer.
