ST. LOUIS — On Dec. 14, Post Holdings announced the publication of its 2023 Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) report, in which it detailed progress as it integrates responsible practices into the four strategic pillars of the business: sourcing, operational, product and social.
Highlights from the report include conducting data analysis and supporting Scope 3 emissions reduction along its supply chain, advancing health and safety for people and product, enhancing responsible sourcing practices and sustainable packaging materials, supporting employee advancement through promotions, and giving back to the communities where it operates.
For example, Post shared that it has joined two programs — CDP Supply Chain and the Supplier Leadership on Climate Transition — to play a bigger role in helping its supply chain partners reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, which benefits the company’s own Scope 3 emissions.
The company also noted it is currently outperforming industry standards for health and safety, and has promoted employees globally at a rate of 12% over the past year.
Considering the company’s charitable contributions, Post shared it donated more than 11.5 million lbs of food, up 14% year-over-year, in 2023, alongside financial contributions and employee volunteering to support local communities.
“We are proud to share the actions we have taken through the management of our business operations and the culture we foster for our colleagues,” said Rob Vitale, president and chief executive officer. “Our efforts in this area help us leverage a foundation for growth and drive long-term sustainable value that benefits all of our constituents.”
Also in the report, Post shared an overview of the company with a highlight on its newly established pet food division. According to the company, recent acquisitions into the pet food space — including the purchase of several brands formerly owned by The J.M. Smucker Company, as well as its acquisition of Perfection Pet Foods in early December — have made it the No. 3 branded pet food producer by volume in the United States.
Post’s pet food brands are folded into its Post Consumer Brands division, which reaped $3.03 billion in sales in 2023. Roughly $679.8 million of those sales were attributed directly to the company’s new pet food portfolio.
