Public to decide where they would like to see new dog parks in Limerick

NEW DOG park locations for Limerick can now be decided by the public, who are being asked to have their say on where they would like to see more dog-friendly spaces.

Limerick City and County Council has announced a public consultation will take place for the proposed locations and designs for new dog parks.

This initiative aims to ensure that dogs of all sizes can exercise off-leash, enjoy freedom, and engage in social interaction.

Currently, seven proposed locations are under consideration for new dog-friendly amenities.

These include: The People’s Park, Limerick city, Norwood Park in Singland, O’Brien Park, Clare St, Castletroy Park, Castletroy, Caherdavin Green, Old Cratloe Road, Bellefield Gardens, Ennis Road, and in Kilmallock.

Thanks to an allocation of €130,000 from the Mayor’s Fund by Mayor of Limerick, John Moran, the Council will be developing additional dog parks and considering upgrades to existing ones in 2025 and future years.

Dog parks are now open for public use at Mungret Park, Baggot Estate Park, Ballinacurra, and The Demesne Park in Newcastle West. These parks provide safe and enjoyable spaces for dogs and their owners to socialise and exercise.

The Council is now welcoming all submissions regarding the proposed locations of new parks, any additional locations that submitters wish to propose and the proposed designs.

Visit MyPoint.Limerick.ie to view maps of proposed locations. In areas where two locations are shown on the map, only one will be developed.

“Please note that while all submissions will be considered, the development of a new dog park at any of the proposed locations is not guaranteed,” a Council spokesperson said.

Dog owners and handlers will always remain responsible for their pets.”

Submissions or observations can be made until 5pm on Tuesday, May 27, via MyPoint.Limerick.ie or email: parks@limerick.ie.
