Puget Sound Pet Food Bank saved from closure by generous donors' timely support
TACOMA, Wash. — The Puget Sound Pet Food Bank, a vital resource for families and their pets in Pierce County, has been saved from closure thanks to the generosity of two donors.
The nonprofit, which has been serving the community for nearly 13 years, was on the brink of shutting down last month due to a lack of funds and resources.
“The number of families asking for help is exploding,” said a representative from the food bank, highlighting the growing demand for their services.
The donors have committed to covering rent and utilities for the next six to eight months, allowing the food bank to continue its mission of providing free food and medical resources.
“We are getting more recurring donations, monthly donations. We're not there yet in terms of being able to afford to pay rent but more and more people are responding,” a representative said.
The food bank not only supplies free pet food and supplies to those in need but also supports temporary emergency shelters.

One community member shared, “I just got a kitten for Christmas and I wouldn't be able to keep and feed it without the help from this place, and they are also going to help us get flea treatment to keep it healthy.”
Another local resident expressed the importance of the food bank, saying, “I feel that our pets are our children. I have four cats and they are the biggest blessing.”
The food bank processes anywhere from five to 10 applications a day and ended last year assisting more than 9,000 pets.
