Cats ready for adoption are spayed or neutered, microchipped and vaccinated and can be adopted for a small fee.
It was difficult to resist the charms of Elbie, Honey and Tracy Saturday at Pet Valu on Niagara Stone Road in Virgil.
The three feline friends were hanging out at the store from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. that day with Niagara Cat Rescue volunteers Carol Sheremetta and Cathy Spence, both eager to help them find their fur-ever homes.
The snow that fell overnight may have made traffic through the store a bit slower than usual, but Sheremetta and Spence were on hand to answer questions and hand out adoption applications to anyone who might have fallen hopelessly in love with one of the cats.
Elbie loved being held by Carol, who described her as perfect for a one-cat household. Elbie is quiet, affectionate and easy-going, she said, but doesn’t always get along well with other cats.
Even so, the three-year-old was sharing a cage without fuss for the day with a black-and-white beauty named Tracy. Spence said that Tracy wasn’t enjoying hanging out at the store on Saturday. Attempts to get her to come out to pose for the camera bore that out. Also three years old, Tracy loves other cats and is usually playful and lively.
The youngest of the trio at six months, Honey was near the front of the check-out counter ready to greet customers. The sleek white six-month-old was described as a playful kitten and was certainly not shy when approached.
The three cats are all up for adoption through NOTL Cats, a volunteer-based rescue group in the Niagara Region specializing in small feline friends. They help stray cats and kittens by placing them in foster homes, giving them the medical attention they require and helping them find homes. Currently, NOTL Cats has a number felines up for adoption via its website.
The organization is hosting a special Easter fundraiser this Saturday, March 30 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 456 Line 2, behind Crossroads Public School. They invite you to come by for a visit to pick up a beautiful spring planter and maybe a couple of cat-themed treats as well.
