STATESVILLE, NC. — Raw pet food producer Blue Ridge Beef issued a voluntary recall on Dec. 21 in collaboration with the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The recall involves numerous lots of three 2-lb raw pet food chubs for kittens and puppies.
Recalled products include Blue Ridge Beef Kitten Grind (UPC 8 54298 00101 6), Kitten Mix (UPC 8 54298 00243 6) and Puppy Mix (UPC 8 54298 00169 6). Recalled lot numbers for all three products range from N24 1114 to N24 1224. All recalled products were distributed in Connecticut, Maine, Maryland, North Carolina, New York, Pennsylvania and Virginia between Nov. 14 and Dec. 20.
On Dec. 15, the North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services determined one lot of each sampled product tested positive for Salmonella and Listeria monocytogenes. These foodborne pathogens pose health risks to humans and sometimes pets.
Blue Ridge Beef has recalled all lots between N24 1114 and N24 1224 “out of an abundance of caution,” according to the FDA. No illnesses related to the recalled product have been reported.
