Bronwyn Newport, who is a member of the cast of the reality TV show “Real Housewives of Salt Lake City,” was left with nearly 40 puncture wounds after she was attacked by a dog at a dog park.

The attack occurred in April, but Newport discussed what happened with People, saying she needed stiches in her arm and leg and also suffered hairline fracture. She said she also had “intense,” painful bruising from the bites.

Newport, 39, says she was walking one of her six dogs when she noticed another dog running around.

“He wasn’t barking, nothing seemed weird, but he was alone,” Newport tells People. “So I reached out to pet him and he did make a weird kind of skid move. He jerked away from me.”

The dog circled around her and then bit her in back of her knee. Newport admits she was panicked by the situation and “did everything wrong.”

“I know you’re not supposed to scream, you’re not supposed to jerk your arm. I did all of those things,” she tells People. “I totally freaked out. I’d never been bitten by a dog before. I totally lost my mind, and I honestly think I made it worse.” Another person at the dog park helped stop the attack by the dog.

Newport also talked about the attack during this week’s episode of the reality show, the Daily Mail reports. She did not press charges against the dog’s owner in the incident. The dog’s behavior reportedly was related to health problems, so Newport and her husband paid for medical treatment for the dog and then helped it find another home, the Daily Mail reports.

“I did feel for the dog,” Newport said. “I have rescue dogs who’ve been through it.”

However, the Daily Mail reports Newport’s treatment of her dogs has been criticized when dog feces was seen in the rooms of her mansion. Her husband also has been sued twice over accusations that their dogs attacked delivery drivers, the U.S. Sun reports.
