Reno restaurant partners with local nonprofit to help pet owners in need

RENO, Nev. (KOLO) – Monday nights just got a little more meaningful at Wild River Grille. The downtown Reno restaurant is teaming up with the Shakespeare Animal Fund for a fundraiser aimed at helping pet owners cover emergency vet bills.

Every Monday in April and September, Wild River Grille will donate 10% of its sales to the nonprofit. Diners are encouraged to bring their dogs along to enjoy the restaurant’s spacious riverside patio. Dogs of all breeds and sizes are welcome on the patio, and water bowls are always available.

“We love our community,” said Wild River Grille Marketing Manager Ryland Desomber. “So we want to make sure people are comfortable bringing their dogs somewhere to enjoy this nice patio. It’s gorgeous during the summer where we have amazing sunsets and live music — all while your dog gets to be with you having a great moment.”

The Shakespeare Animal Fund, which operates in 12 counties across northern Nevada, helps people on fixed incomes or in financial crisis afford life-saving veterinary care for their pets. The organization was founded more than two decades ago in honor of a cocker spaniel named Shakespeare.

“What we’re here for is to give people the help they need when they need it the most — to help take care of their best friend,” said board member James Smack.

The nonprofit receives dozens of calls each week from pet owners struggling to pay for emergency procedures. Fundraisers like this help ensure they can keep saying yes. For those who can’t make it to dinner, donations can also be made directly to the Shakespeare Animal Fund through their website.
