ST. CHARLES, MO. — ROYAL CANIN® US, a division of Mars, Incorporated, announced an expansion of its Veterinary Gastrointestinal (GI) line on April 16. According to Royal Canin, GI issues are the 3rd and 4th most common issues in cats and dogs, respectively, and tailored nutrition can help play a significant role in supporting these pets’ GI tracts and microbiomes.

During the last 50 years, researchers at Royal Canin have been collaborating with specialists and veterinary professionals to help improve the GI health in pets through nutrition.

“Royal Canin is committed to making a better world for pets by putting feline and canine needs at the forefront of scientific innovation,” said Jean-Lin Pelatan, general manager, Royal Canin US Veterinary Business Unit. “We are proud to introduce our newest GI innovations, backed by robust science, for cats and dogs.”

Royal Canin’s newest GI formulas include three diets for dogs: Low Fat + Hydrolyzed Protein Canine, Low Fat Small Dog, and High Fiber Loaf in Sauce Canine; and two for cats: Hydrolyzed Protein Feline and Fiber Response Thin Slices in Gravy. All the GI diets are specifically formulated to support pets’ microbiomes by leveraging highly digestible proteins and a “robust” fiber blend.

Gastrointestinal Low Fat + Hydrolyzed Protein Canine touts high palatability and is formulated with a combination of highly digestible, hydrolyzed soy proteins, fiber blends, and a low level of fat to support long-term GI health in dogs experiencing food sensitivities.

For small dogs, Royal Canin offers Gastrointestinal Low Fat Small Dog, a dry diet that is formulated for smaller pups needing a fat-restricted diet. It contains highly digestible proteins, fiber blends and Omega 3s to provide additional digestive health support.

For dogs preferring wet foods, the new Gastrointestinal High Fiber Loaf in Sauce Canine aims to meet their needs. This diet is formulated will highly digestible protein, a fiber blend and prebiotics to help regulate intestinal function and promote a balanced, healthy microbiome.

For cats, Royal Canin now offers Gastrointestinal Hydrolyzed Protein Feline, which is formulated with highly digestible, hydrolyzed soy protein and a fiber blend to support long-term GI health in felines that have food sensitivities. It touts high palatability, according to Royal Canin.

For felines that enjoy wet foods, Royal Canin’s new Gastrointestinal Fiber Response Thin Slices in Gravy aims to meet these cats’ unique needs. This new diet pairs the benefits of a wet format to support hydration with fiber from psyllium to maintain intestinal function in cats.

“We are confident these unique diets will help veterinarians who need alternate diet options in gastrointestinal management,” Pelatan said.
