RSPCA ACT’s Pets of the week – Jake and Dusty

Meet our lovable pets of the week looking for forever homes at the RSPCA ACT Shelter!

Jake and Dusty are this week’s friendly Pets of the Week! These lovely animals are waiting to find their perfect match. Think that could be you? Read more about them below!

Bird of the Week: Jake

This handsome gent with the cheeky grin and spikey crest has enjoyed a happy family life. He’s clever, aware of his surroundings and loves a chat! He’s about 45 years old, you see, a lovely middle-aged chap.

Domestic cockatoos like Jake live to about 70 or 80 years of age, so he still has a lot of love to give. He’s stunningly handsome, and he loves spreading his crest to show off. Most impressively, he’ll greet you!

“Hello! Hello!” He’s great. You have to answer him, and if you do, he goes on, “Whatcha doing? Whatcha doing?” We think he’s got an extensive vocabulary, but he’s not too happy living in our shelter, so we’re not seeing his full potential.

Experienced large bird owners will love Jake, and he’d certainly love to meet you. You’ll need a large indoor cage, of course. Come in and ask to meet him, you won’t be sorry.

Dusty’s a kelpie through and through – and quite the stunner! Photo: RSPCA ACT.

Dog of the Week: Dusty

Can you help our friendly girl Dusty find a home? She’s a fun dog and would be perfect for someone looking to love a new companion and sidekick.

As you can see from the photo, she’s a Kelpie breed with all the good looks. She’ll need lots of exercise but nothing a family or individual wouldn’t enjoy; go for a walk, have a play, let her burn some energy, and she’ll be your best buddy in the evenings.

Dusty is ‘easy’ to play with. She loves to fetch (at 100 km an hour) and enjoys a walk where she can sniff out her surroundings, you know, like most other dogs.

She’s fit, healthy, and gorgeous- all you could ask for in a new pet. If the time is right to add a pet to your family and your home, Dusty is your girl!

Pawnote: With the weather warming up, there’s a chance we could see litters of kittens arriving rather soon at our shelter. To help, please make sure your cat is desexed. Thanks, Canberra.

Visit RSPCA ACT today at 12 Kirkpatrick St, Weston, and add a new companion to your life. You won’t regret it!
