Carlson Kressley spruced up puppies with Hawaiian shirts, dresses and sunglasses on Tuesday at the PAWS Chicago Medical Center and Lurie Clinic in Little Village.
Kressley, who is a judge of “RuPaul’s Drag Race” and was one of the stars of “Queer Eye for the Straight Guy,” toured the shelter and styled dogs to promote Global Travel Advisor Day, which is Wednesday and honors travel professionals and their work, and to promote a Beach Party fundraiser for PAWS Chicago in July. ALG Vacations brought about 30 travel advisers from Chicago and Wisconsin, who joined Kressley to volunteer and tour the facility.
“Anything to come here and raise awareness and draw attention to the great work they’re doing is an amazing opportunity,” said Kressley. The dogs he styled are either ready to be adopted or will be up for adoption soon.
When asked how different it was to style dogs compared to humans, Kressley said, “I found out dogs look better in Hawaiian shirts than people do.”
Jokes aside, Kressley added, “Normally I don’t think [dogs] should have sunglasses and a purse, but to kind of get a cute picture. … It is funny how it kind of brings out the best in them, and I think it’s the same idea for people like when you find like a piece of clothing or an accessory or look that works for you, it just kind of gives you a superpower and makes you feel like you can do anything.”
